Thomas E. Masterson, President of T.E.M. Electric, Inc.
With more than 30 years experience in the electrical industry, Thomas Masterson branched out to start his own business 10 years ago. Since then, T.E. M. Electric, Inc. has experienced success and growth, with the assistance of the SBA and its resource partners. The Lexington, Ky. firm provides service in engineering, supply, service and maintenance of industrial, commercial and institutional facilities.
Masterson started business operations from his living room, and was able to move into a 5,000 square-foot facility a few years later. Masterson attributes much of the company’s success to the business management skills he received through the SBA's Small Business Development Center Program. T.E.M. also became 8(a) and HUBZone certified as a minority-owned business that opened the doors to government contracting opportunities. Masterson has built a solid reputation in the government contracting arena as a subcontractor, and today is a prime contractor on federal contracts.
Masterson is very active in his local community, and supports the development of other minority-owned businesses. He serves on the Kentucky Minority Business Council Board of Directors and the Louisville Hispanic Association Board of Directors. He also serves as a mentor and guest speaker with the Minority and Women’s Construction Training Program.
